The debut memoir

Insecure
Overachiever

A Story of Ambition, Burnout and the Courage to Change Course

Coming February 23, 2027 · Girl Friday Productions

Sabra followed the high-achiever playbook almost perfectly: Stanford, Silicon Valley, leadership at one of the most celebrated technology companies in the world—and the growing suspicion that winning the game might not answer the question she actually cared about.

Insecure Overachiever is a funny, vulnerable memoir about ambition, burnout, self-doubt, and what happens when the life you worked desperately hard to build starts asking whether you really want it.

Speaking & conversations

Let's talk about the stuff ambitious people whisper about.

Sabra speaks candidly—and with humor—about the hidden psychology of achievement, burnout, self-doubt, career reinvention, and what happens when the life that looks successful from the outside stops feeling quite right on the inside.

Podcasts

Out loud is
better.

Sabra joins hosts and communities for honest conversations about burnout, ambition, self-doubt, work, identity, and the strange business of figuring out what you actually want.

Before writing about ambition, she spent a decade inside it.

From Stanford to Visa to Stripe, Sabra spent nearly a decade in Silicon Valley building products, leading teams, and eventually helping steer large engineering organizations through periods of extraordinary growth and pressure. It gave her a front-row seat to both the exhilaration of ambition—and what can happen when achievement becomes inseparable from identity.

A few places that shaped the story

  1. StanfordLearning how to achieve
  2. VisaBuilding inside global technology
  3. StripeLeading through hypergrowth
  4. NowWriting about what achievement asks of us

These days, she's less interested in how to optimize the machine—and more interested in what all that optimization does to the humans inside it.

ABOUT

Hi, I'm Sabra.

Sabra Meretab is a writer, speaker, and former Silicon Valley engineering leader exploring ambition, self-doubt, burnout, and what makes a life feel meaningful.

A Stanford graduate, she spent nearly a decade in technology, eventually helping lead large engineering organizations at Stripe during its hypergrowth years. From the outside, the trajectory looked remarkably successful. From the inside, things were more complicated.

Her work now explores a question she spent years avoiding: What happens when you're very good at climbing a ladder and increasingly unsure it's leaning against the right wall?
